Nancy Furst, PsyD, LP She/Her/Hers

I am a licensed clinical psychologist who provides individual and couples therapy to adults. I am a full time employee of the VA Health Care Center in Charlotte, NC, and I have a private practice in Elizabeth neighborhood. Prospective patients for my private practice may be self-referred (i.e., a referral from another provider is not required). Specifically, I provide individual therapy with transgender adults of various ages and stages of life, and couples therapy for transgender individuals and their partners, particularly those couples who are actively coping with uncertainty and/or role changes associated with gender transition. I also conduct psychological assessments for individuals pursuing hormone therapy and/or gender confirming surgery. I have additional specialty in treating trauma and PTSD, anxiety, and mood disorders. I primarily use a cognitive behavioral approach with my patients and regularly integrate mindfulness interventions into my therapy as well. I have experience in evidence-based practices for PTSD, including cognitive processing therapy and prolonged exposure. I provide cognitive behavioral therapy for anxiety disorders, including social anxiety and panic disorder, insomnia, chronic pain, and ADHD. I have experience with other CBT models including DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) and ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy).
